Pune GRP Arrests Army Jawan For Molesting Minor Girl, Throwing Her Out Of Running Train

Pune, 2nd June 2021: A serving Army Jawan has been arrested for allegedly molesting an eight-year-old girl in the toilet of Goa-Hazrat Nizamuddin Express and then throwing her out of the train when she resisted. The incident took place around 2 am on June 1 between Lonand and Salpa railway stations in the Satara district.
Government Railway Police (GRP) has arrested the accused identified as Naik Prabhu Mallappa Uphar (33), a native of Sangal in the Belgaum district of Karnataka. He was posted at an Army unit in Uttar Pradesh.
According to police, a former soldier along with his wife and three children including the victim boarded the 02779 Goa-Hazrat Nizamuddin Express on Monday. After dinner, the victim was sleeping on the upper berth, where the accused heaved her up to the toilet. He was in the middle of removing her clothes when she woke up and resisted. Under the pretext of taking her back to her parents, he pushed her out of the running train around 2 am on Tuesday.

Police said that some residents found her injured near the track in the morning between Lonand and Salpa railway stations. After getting the information, GRP and Railway Protection Force (RPF) personnel reached the spot and admitted her to Satara Civil Hospital. Upon improvement, she narrated the incident to doctors and police.
Meanwhile, her parents were informed through the ticket collectors when the train reached Ahmednagar railway station. Up until then, they thought her to be sleeping on the upper berth.
Teams were formed by Superintendent of Police (GRP, Pune) Sadanand Wayse-Patil to nab the accused. The coaches were blocked and searches were conducted for about 50-80 km based on the description given by the victim. Four suspects were detained and brought out of the train at Bhusawal railway station for enquiry. During interrogation, the Army Jawan confessed to the crime and was arrested.
The investigation team included Additional Superintendent of Police Kavita Nerkar-Pawar, Local Crime Branch (LCB) Police Inspector Maula Syed, Police Inspector Sarde of Bhusawal GRP Police Station, and other staff.
An FIR has been registered against the accused at Miraj railway police station. PSI Ubale is further investigating the case.
