Pune, June 26, 2020: Due to the breakdown in the Parvati water supply and treatment plant station on Thursday morning, the water supply of the south part of the Pune city was hampered. Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) completed repair work in the afternoon but residents faced problem to get water. Corporation tried to supply water through tankers but it was not sufficient to solve the problem of residents who expressed outrage due to unavailability of water.

According to the PMC, the water supply was completely disturbed on Thursday night as the power supply cable of 22 Kilowatt (KW) had failed. The water supply of Shivdarshan, Laxminagar, Taware Colony, Aranyeshwar, Padmavati, Sahakarnagar, Chavan Nagar, Sambhaji Nagar, Taljai, Bibwewadi, Market Yard, Maharshi Nagar which one of the most of the densely populated areas did not get water on Thursday morning. PMC arranged water tankers to supply water to some parts of these areas. But it couldn’t solve the water problem of most of the areas.

Pravin Gedam, Superintendent Engineer of water supply department of PMC said, “We restored water supply in the afternoon. We completed power restoration work on a war footing in the afternoon. Meanwhile, we had made alternative water supply arrangements.”

Congress criticized the administration, BJP: Meanwhile, newly appointed Congress party leader in PMC, Aba Bagul criticized the administration. He said that Pune city became a smart city, unfortunately, Smart city cannot arrange alternate power supply in water treatment plants. On Thursday, half of the city did not get water. PMC commissioner Shekhar Gaikwad and ruling party- Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and city Mayor Murlidhar Mohol should have to take serious note of this incident and take appropriate measures to avoid such kind of incidents in future in the city.
