Hadapsar, 6th January 2025: People use the Shewalewadi Phata to access Shewalewadi from the Pune-Solapur Highway, resulting in heavy traffic congestion. A new U-turn has been opened up here, leading not only to congestion but also to small and large road accidents. Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) General Secretary of Pune District, Rahul Shewale, has demanded that a permanent solution be introduced.

Requests addressing this issue were submitted to National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) Executive Engineer Shruti Naik and Deputy Commissioner of Police Amol Zende, in charge of Pune Police’s Traffic Branch. Officials from the Traffic Branch visited the spot and conducted an inspection. They have vowed to smoothen the flow of traffic and take necessary measures.

Assistant Commissioner of Police (Traffic 2), Senior Police Inspector Dhananjay Pingale of Hadapsar Traffic Division and NHAI officials, visited the spot. Rahul Shewale said, “There is a huge traffic jam at Shewalewadi Phata on the Pune-Solapur highway, and citizens are suffering due to this. There is a Pune Mahanagar Parivahan Mahamandal Limited (PMPML) bus depot nearby. Due to this, hundreds of buses are coming and going. It is necessary to close the puncture in front of the bus depot and divert those buses from Manjari Farm.”

Shewale added, “Since Shewalewadi Phata Chowk is not technically suitable for U-turns, it has become an accident spot for the past few months. There has been a large amount of encroachment on both sides of the intersection. Due to this, many accidents have occurred. There is constant traffic congestion. The timing of the signals, the disruption in following them, and the resulting constant traffic congestion are inviting accidents. It is necessary to appoint a permanent traffic police controller at that place.”

He further stated, “The closure of the puncture in front of the Manjari Stud Farm two months ago has created a huge traffic jam at Shewalewadi Phata. Due to this, citizens and school students going to the village are having to face unnecessary hardship. Therefore, the existing puncture at Shewalewadi Phata should be enlarged, and regular traffic police should be stationed here.”
