Pune: Heavy Traffic Chaos at Rakshak Chowk Due to Ongoing Subway Construction; Citizens Urge Restraint

Rakshak Chowk, 28th June 2025: Ongoing subway construction work at Rakshak Chowk has led to severe traffic congestion on both sides of the road, affecting commuters traveling towards Pune and Ravet. As seen in videos posted by commuters, traffic has come to a near standstill during peak hours, with frustrated two-wheeler riders taking to the footpaths in an attempt to bypass the jam, further damaging footpath greenery and public property in the process.

A video shared on social media shows a line of motorcyclists riding on the footpath near Rakshak Chowk, running over plants and uprooting them, adding to the mess caused by the construction work. Local residents and social media users have appealed to citizens to show patience and avoid such behavior, urging them not to damage public spaces.

The subway work, which is aimed at improving long-term connectivity, is causing temporary but significant disruption. Traffic authorities are advising commuters to plan alternate routes and travel timings, especially during rush hours, to ease the bottleneck at Rakshak Chowk until the subway work progresses.
