Pune: Hinjawadi Phase 2 to Laxmi Chowk Road Clearing Begins, PMRDA Acts Against Encroachments to Ease Traffic
Hinjawadi, 3rd July 2025: In a significant move to tackle civic issues and traffic congestion in the Hinjawadi, Maan, and Marunji areas, the Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA) has initiated action to reopen key roads blocked by encroachments. On Thursday, PMRDA began the process of clearing the crucial Hinjawadi Phase 2 – Wipro Circle to Marunji Laxmi Chowk stretch for vehicular movement.
The road had remained inaccessible for years due to encroachments. The clearance drive is part of a broader effort to resolve traffic snarls and urban development challenges in the rapidly growing IT corridor. Acting under the guidance of PMRDA Metropolitan Commissioner Dr. Yogesh Mhase, joint action was launched in coordination with multiple departments to remove the illegal structures.
Earlier, PMRDA had issued notices to several establishments in the region for unauthorized alterations that blocked natural water flow in streams and nullahs, and for encroachments on public land along metro and internal routes.
During Thursday’s operation, several commercial occupants voluntarily removed their encroachments, enabling authorities to reclaim and open the road. PMRDA officials confirmed that work on restoring the long-stalled road will now move ahead swiftly, providing major relief to commuters.
The reopening of this route is expected to benefit thousands of local residents and IT professionals who commute daily through this high-traffic zone.
