Satara, 1st November 2025: The iconic Vasota Fort, one of Maharashtra’s most scenic and historically significant trekking destinations, has reopened to tourists from Saturday, November 1, after being closed for nearly four months due to monsoon-related safety concerns.

With the retreat of heavy rains and improved weather conditions, the fort, located deep within the Koyna Wildlife Sanctuary, is once again welcoming nature lovers, trekkers, and history enthusiasts. The reopening is expected to boost local tourism and employment across nearby villages, including Bamnoli, Munawale, Shendi, Tapola, and Ambavade, where boating and camping services operate as key tourism activities.

Known for its breathtaking natural beauty, dense forests, and panoramic views of the Shivsagar Lake, Vasota Fort has long been a favorite among adventure seekers. Visitors reach the fort by crossing the lake by boat and trekking through the thick forest trails of the Sahyadri range.

“Vasota and its surrounding region are rich in biodiversity and must be preserved responsibly even as tourism resumes,” said Vijay Bathe, Forest Range Officer (Wildlife), Bamnoli.

Entry Fees for Vasota Tourism
Entry Fee: ₹100 per person
Children (below 12 years): ₹50
Guide Charges: ₹250
Boat/Vehicle Fee: ₹150
Camera Fee: ₹100 for DSLR, ₹50 for basic or point-and-shoot cameras

Visitors Advised to Exercise Caution
Forest officials have urged tourists to be cautious while trekking. The base of the fort remains damp and shaded by dense foliage, which creates favorable conditions for leeches during the early post-monsoon period. These insects cling to the skin and suck blood before falling off on their own. Tourists have been advised to wear proper trekking gear and remain alert during their visit.

The reopening of Vasota Fort is being promoted jointly by the Tourism Department and the Sahyadri Tiger Reserve Project, both aiming to revive eco-tourism and create new opportunities for local communities.

With its majestic cliffs, deep valleys, and rich biodiversity, Vasota continues to enchant adventurers, reaffirming its place as one of Maharashtra’s most captivating hill forts.
