Pune: History Researcher Prof. Dr. Shailaja Paik Honored at Nowrosji Wadia College

Pune, 30th December 2024: Former student of Nowrosji Wadia College, winner of the prestigious MacArthur Genius (USA) fellowship, and renowned history researcher, Prof. Dr. Shailaja Paik, was felicitated for her remarkable achievements. The ceremony was held to honor her successful journey in the field of history research.
During the event, Prof. Sachin Sanap, Trustee of Modern Education Society, presented Prof. Paik with a certificate of honor and a bouquet of flowers.
Several prominent figures attended the event, including former Principal Dr. Aston, former Principal Khare, former Vice-Principal Kunde, researcher Milind Kasbe, and Dr. Vilas Adhav, former Head of the Economics Department and Director of the School of Education at Savitribai Phule Pune University. They all expressed their admiration for Prof. Paik and wished her continued success in the future.
Prof. Paik shared her inspiring journey of receiving the MacArthur Genius Fellowship, urging students to consider pursuing research in the humanities, despite the common misconception that humanities are less significant than science and commerce. She emphasized the importance of encouraging children to explore the humanities and research fields.
Additionally, Prof. Paik provided guidance to students on how to select a research topic and the kinds of questions to address in their studies. Reflecting on her own journey, she acknowledged the pivotal role played by her relatives, neighbors, teachers, and the college in her success. Reminiscing about her time at Nowrosji Wadia College, she expressed her pride in being a Wadian and encouraged the students to take risks and make thoughtful decisions in their lives.
The event was welcomed by Principal Dr. Vasant Chabukswar, with Prof. Sachin Sanap offering an introductory speech on behalf of the Modern Education Society. Dr. Vrishali Randhir, Principal of Neswadia College, introduced the chief guest, and Prof. Dr. Sonali More-Madhale read the honorable mention. Dr. Pramila Dasture concluded the program, and Dr. Jyoti Anirudh, Head of the History Department, coordinated the event.
The ceremony also saw the presence of Prof. Dr. Gaurav Murthy, teachers, family members, College Vice-Principal Samina Boxwala-Kale, Vice-Principal Bahule, Deans from all branches, and the College Registrar Rajendra Tagde.
