Pune, 10th April 2026: In a shocking incident from Pune district, a 27-year-old woman allegedly killed her six-year-old son with the help of her lover and attempted to pass off the death as natural. The crime, committed in Khed taluka, came to light in Beed after the child’s grandfather grew suspicious before the last rites.

According to police, the accused woman, Basrin Mehboob Shaikh, along with her partner Ram Vinayak Kajewad, allegedly murdered her son Awaiz on the night of April 4 at Kuruli village in Khed. Police said the child was seen as an obstacle in their relationship.

According to police, the duo allegedly drowned the child in a bucket of water in the bathroom and later smashed his head against a wall and the floor, leading to his death. In an attempt to destroy evidence, the accused tried to portray the incident as a natural death.

The woman then took the body to her parental home in Beed, claiming that the child had died of a heart ailment. Preparations for the funeral were underway when the child’s grandfather became suspicious and alerted the Beed police. A post-mortem examination later confirmed foul play, exposing the alleged crime.

Police investigations revealed that Basrin had married Mehboob Shaikh around a decade ago and the couple has three children. Due to marital discord over the past four years, the couple had been living separately. While two children stayed with the father, Awaiz lived with his mother.

During this period, Basrin reportedly developed a relationship with Kajewad, who was known to her husband. The two had been living together in Khed for the past few months. Police said the child was allegedly killed as he was considered a hindrance to their relationship.

Following the complaint, police arrested the woman, while her alleged accomplice remains absconding. A search operation has been launched to trace him. Further investigation is underway.
