Pune: Husband and Wife Die on Spot After Gas Tanker Hits Bike
Pune, 8th May 2026: A couple riding a two-wheeler was killed on the spot after a gas tanker rammed into their vehicle near the Khed Shivapur toll plaza on the Pune-Bengaluru National Highway on Friday afternoon. The accident triggered chaos on the highway, while angry locals allegedly vandalised the tanker following the incident.
According to information received, the deceased have been identified as Rajendra Baban More (55) and Savita Rajendra More (42), residents of Warje Malwadi in Pune. The couple was travelling towards Satara on their motorcycle (MH 12 FH 4696) when the accident occurred on the Satara-bound lane behind the Khed Shivapur toll plaza.
Police said the gas tanker (AP 03 TE 5759) hit the motorcycle with great force, causing both riders to fall under the heavy vehicle. They died on the spot due to severe injuries.
Eyewitnesses stated that both the tanker and the motorcycle were moving at high speed. Preliminary information suggests that the tanker driver lost control of the vehicle, leading to the collision. The impact was so severe that the motorcycle was thrown far off the road.
Soon after the accident, local residents rushed to help and informed the police. However, the couple had already succumbed to their injuries. A large crowd gathered at the spot, and tension prevailed in the area after some enraged citizens allegedly damaged the tanker.
Police personnel reached the scene immediately and brought the situation under control. Traffic on the highway was disrupted for some time before being restored. A panchnama was conducted, and the bodies were sent to a hospital for post-mortem examination.
The tanker driver, identified as Raj Kishan B., a resident of Tirupuram, has been detained by the police. Further investigation into the accident is underway.
