Pune, 16th May 2024: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a warning of hailstorms in select districts of Maharashtra. Unseasonal rain and hail are anticipated in Ahmednagar and Nashik on Thursday, accompanied by thundershowers and gusty winds of 50 to 60 km per hour. An orange warning has been issued by the weather department. Meanwhile, Mumbai, along with its suburbs, Raigad, Thane, and Palghar, remains under a heat wave advisory.

According to the IMD, unseasonal rain is expected across Maharashtra today, with Ahmednagar and Nashik specifically warned of potential hailstorms. Nashik city is predicted to experience unseasonal rain coupled with gale-force winds, along with isolated instances of hailstorms. Wind speeds of 40 to 60 km per hour are anticipated in isolated areas throughout the state, posing risks of damage.

The influx of evaporated air from the Arabian Sea has resulted in heightened humidity levels, contributing to cloud formation due to rising temperatures at the local level. The IMD further notes that hail is occurring in regions where high clouds are forming.
