Pune: Implement Five-Day Work Week in Banks, Demands Bharatiya Mazdoor Sangh
Pune, 25th February 2026: A nationwide protest was held on February 25 by the Bharatiya Mazdoor Sangh (BMS), pressing for the fulfilment of various pending demands of workers across the country. In Pune, demonstrations took place outside the District Collector’s office, where office-bearers and members of several labour unions participated in large numbers.
Among the key demands raised during the protest was the implementation of a five-day working week in banks. Rajesh Mule, General Secretary of the State Bank Workers Organization, submitted a memorandum addressed to Prime Minister Narendra Modi through the District Collector.
Mule said the increasing workload on bank employees, expanding digital responsibilities, and a declining work-life balance have made a five-day work week essential. He stated that adequate rest for employees is necessary to strengthen digital banking services and improve the quality of customer service.
He also expressed confidence that with the support of Bharatiya Mazdoor Sangh, which claims to have over 25 million members nationwide, bank employees would soon achieve the implementation of a five-day working week.
