Wagholi, 13th September 2025: Residents of Wagholi launched an indefinite hunger strike on Saturday morning at Bakori Phata, demanding urgent action on the long-pending Bakori Road issue. The agitation, led by the social welfare group Wagholi Against Corruption Organization (Team WACO), began at 10 am and has drawn strong participation from local citizens.

For decades, the 60-feet Bakori Road shown in Town Planning maps has remained only on paper. Residents allege that despite collecting taxes and development charges, the Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA) allowed builders to secure approvals and occupancy certificates without providing the promised road. As a result, thousands of commuters are forced to use a narrow 9-feet stretch, leading to frequent accidents, traffic chaos, and daily hardships.

“This movement is for a basic necessity – the availability of Bakori Road. Until the administration takes concrete action, the indefinite hunger strike will continue,” said Anil Kumar Mishra, President of Team WACO, while addressing protesters.

Citizens’ Demands
An inquiry into how PMRDA granted multiple town planning approvals without ensuring road access, and action against guilty officials and builders.
A written explanation from the Collector and local administration on why Bakori Road has not been provided to citizens so far.
Completion of the land acquisition process and fair compensation for affected farmers.
Immediate widening of Bakori Road and improvement of other internal roads in Wagholi.

Organizers said the agitation will remain peaceful and democratic but warned that the strike will continue indefinitely until the government provides clear timelines and solutions. Hundreds of citizens from Wagholi and surrounding areas are expected to join in the coming days.
