Pune, 18th June 2026: Pune Rural Police have arrested three members of an inter-district dacoity gang and detained a juvenile in connection with a series of armed robberies, burglaries and violent thefts reported across Pune and Ahilyanagar districts. The police have recovered stolen gold and silver ornaments and other valuables worth around Rs 25 lakh, while investigations have so far led to the detection of 20 serious offences.

The breakthrough comes after a string of armed robberies and violent thefts reported over the past six months in Daund, Baramati and Junnar divisions. In one of the most serious incidents, a gang of six to seven armed men allegedly struck at five locations in a single night on June 10, including four places in Daund taluka and one in neighbouring Ahilyanagar district.

According to police, the gang targeted houses in Babirnagar, Awadewasti, Awalewasti and Khorwadi villages in Daund, assaulting residents, threatening them with weapons and fleeing with gold ornaments, cash, mobile phones and a motorcycle collectively worth over Rs 7.1 lakh.

Given the gravity of the offences, Pune Rural Police formed six special teams to investigate the crimes. Investigators analysed crime patterns, examined CCTV footage along routes extending nearly 50 km from the crime scenes, and gathered technical and intelligence inputs. The probe revealed that the accused had travelled from Ahilyanagar district to commit the offences before returning.

On June 13, police simultaneously conducted raids in Karjat taluka of Ahilyanagar district and Ashti taluka of Beed district, arresting Ganesh Mangesh Kale (22), Vishal Hambardya Kale (21) and Kishor Ravan Bhosale (19). A juvenile was also taken into custody. Police said another accused, Pravin alias Pappu Lala Bhosale, remains absconding.

During interrogation, the arrested accused allegedly confessed to their involvement in multiple crimes across Pune Rural jurisdiction. Police said the arrests helped crack four dacoity cases, six robbery cases and five burglary cases in Pune district. Further investigation also linked the gang to eight offences in Ahilyanagar district, including three dacoities, three robberies and two burglaries.

The police recovered around 17 tolas of gold ornaments, 324 grams of silver jewellery and other stolen property worth approximately Rs 25 lakh. The arrested accused have been remanded to police custody.

Investigators said the gang members are habitual offenders with several serious cases already registered against them. Ganesh Kale alone has eight previous cases of dacoity and theft against him, while the absconding accused Pravin Bhosale is wanted in at least 11 serious offences.

According to Pune Rural Police, the Local Crime Branch has recovered nearly 900 grams of stolen gold ornaments while cracking dacoity, robbery, burglary and theft cases over the past two-and-a-half months.

Further investigation is underway.
