Pune Brings Communities Together During Ramadan

Pune, 6th March 2026: A spirit of unity and communal harmony marked an interfaith “Dawat-e-Iftar” gathering organised in Pune during the holy month of Ramadan, where citizens from different religious backgrounds came together to share the evening meal and promote the message of peace and fraternity.

The programme was jointly organised by Jamiat Ulema‑e‑Hind (Pune unit), Maharashtra Muslim Conference and the Lashkar Police Station. The gathering was held at the badminton court near the Assembly Hall at Azam Campus.

Organisers said the event aimed to strengthen bonds between communities and encourage dialogue, respect and mutual understanding. Social workers, local residents and representatives from various communities attended the gathering and joined in breaking the fast together during Iftar.

Participants noted that such initiatives reflect Pune’s long-standing tradition of coexistence and communal harmony, where people from diverse backgrounds come together to celebrate important occasions.

Amitesh Kumar, Police Commissioner of Pune city, attended the event as the chief guest. Several senior police officials and dignitaries from different sectors were also present at the programme.

Among those supporting the event were Additional Commissioner of Police Manoj Patil, Deputy Commissioner of Police Rajlakshmi Shivankar, Assistant Commissioner of Police Sangeeta Shinde Alfonso and Senior Police Inspector Santosh Khetmalis.

The programme was organised under the leadership of Haji Zuber Memon, founder-president of the Maharashtra Muslim Conference, along with Qari Idris Ansari.

Organisers said the large turnout demonstrated the spirit of togetherness in the city and highlighted the importance of preserving harmony and strengthening social ties across communities.
