Pune: International Sports University To Be Developed As A Priority Place For Sports Education – Minister Sunil Kedar

Pune, 26th June 2021: Today, a review meeting was held at Shiv Chhatrapati Sports Complex, Mahalunge-Balewadi, Pune in the presence of NCP chief Sharad Pawar discuss ‘International Sports University Maharashtra’.

Speaking on the occasion, Sports and Youth Welfare Minister Sunil Kedar said that emphasis is being laid on building an international sports university on the principle of ‘Health is Wealth’ to complement the new generation of sports. The intention is to produce talented players from this university to make the name of the state shine nationally as well as internationally. He also stated that through the International Sports University, it will be developed as a priority place for sports education in the state and the country by excelling in the field of sports.

In his introductory speech, Kedar said that the state government is making efforts to bring the Shiv Chhatrapati Sports Complex at Mahalunge-Balewadi on the world map. To build a world-class international sports university to enhance the quality of research, training and skills development, moreover, expressing this belief, the experts in the field of sports should give their guiding contribution for the establishment of the university, added Sunil Kedar. He said that he would help the financially poor players through this university.

Also, Mrinal Vaidya, a taekwondo fighter, was felicitated for winning a bronze medal at the 2nd Asian Cadet Taekwondo Championships in Vietnam.

Sharad Pawar said that the International Sports University should take help and use their knowledge. Efforts should be made to make the name of this university national as well as international. As a result of all this, the university should be seen as a hub for producing talented players both nationally and internationally. People from the business world should be involved in developing the infrastructure in the sports sector through the social responsibility fund.

Minister of State for Sports and Youth Welfare Aditi Tatkare in her thank you speech said that International Sports University is an ambitious project of the Maharashtra state government.

Tatkare, Additional Chief Secretary of School Education and Sports Vandana Krishna, Pune City Police Commissioner Amitabh Gupta, Pune Municipal Commissioner Vikram Kumar, Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Commissioner Rajesh Patil, Pimpri Chinchwad Police Commissioner Krishna Prakash, Sports and Youth Welfare Commissioner Om Prakash Bakoria, PMRDA Chief Executive Officer Suhas Divase, Superintendent of Police Dr Abhinav Deshmukh, Additional Commissioner Dr Anil Ramod, along with eminent sports experts, players as well as senior officials of the concerned department were present.
