Pune: IT professional loses Rs 1.6 lakh to travel agent in Andaman and Nicobar tour scam
Pune, 14th April 2023: An IT professional fell victim to a travel agent’s scam, losing Rs 1.6 lakh, in the promise of a group tour to Andaman and Nicobar Islands.
Harshal Shinde, 32, had seen an advertisement on a video sharing platform and contacted the travel agent for further information on the tour and package. After garnering all necessary information, Shinde planned the trip and created a group with 15 friends interested in joining the tour. The travel agent asked Shinde to confirm the bookings by paying a token amount, which led Shinde to transfer the full amount of Rs 1.6 lakh to the agent’s UPI account.
The Market Yard police have registered a complaint against the travel agent for duping Shinde, and are investigating the case. The travel agent is yet to be arrested, and the police are verifying reports regarding another tour operator arrested in Andaman and Nicobar. The police have filed an FIR against the accused travel agent on Wednesday.
