Dehu Road, 19th June 2025: The Jadhavwadi Lake has reached 94.53% of its storage capacity as of 9:00 AM today, raising concerns of uncontrolled water discharge into the Indrayani River basin due to continuous rainfall in the region.

According to a warning issued by the Pune Irrigation Department, the lake is an ungated reservoir, meaning that once it reaches full capacity, excess water will naturally overflow into the downstream river system. Authorities have cautioned that the lake may reach 100% capacity at any moment, which could lead to sudden and unregulated water flow into the Sudha River, a tributary of the Indrayani.

Residents of riverside villages including Jambavade, Sudumbare, Sudavadi, Dehu-Alandi, and Tulapur have been advised not to approach the riverbed. Any belongings, livestock, or other material placed near the river should be moved to higher ground immediately to avoid damage or loss.

Special attention has been drawn to the Warkari pilgrims participating in the annual Dindi procession. With many devotees currently gathered in Dehu and Alandi, officials have appealed to all to avoid entering or camping near the riverbed due to the risk of sudden water release.

“The situation is being closely monitored. All local governing bodies—Gram Panchayats, Municipal Corporations, and relevant officials—are instructed to remain on alert,” said Digambar Dubal, Executive Engineer, Pune Irrigation Department.
