Pune: Jewellers on Alert After Two Failed Armed Robberies
Kothrud, 1st December 2025: Bullion traders in Pune are on high alert following two separate incidents of attempted armed robbery at shops in Uttamnagar and Shivne. In both cases, the traders sustained minor injuries during scuffles with the assailants, but the robbers escaped.
According to police, three suspects on a two-wheeler tried to enter Morya Jewelers, located in front of Dhavade Petrol Pump on NDA Road, Uttamnagar, around 8 pm on Friday. The trader resisted the robbery attempt and raised an alarm, forcing the suspects to flee towards Khadakwasla Dam.
The following day, the same group allegedly attempted to rob Vijayalakshmi Jewelers in Shivne. Citizens who gathered at the scene after the trader’s alertness reportedly helped prevent the crime, prompting the thieves to escape once again.
Assistant Police Inspector Priyanka Gaikwad confirmed that two separate cases have been registered at Uttamnagar Police Station against unknown suspects. “Investigations are underway, and a search for the perpetrators is ongoing,” she said.
The incidents have sparked concern among the bullion community. The Kothrud Jewellers’ Association demanded stronger security measures, calling for a “terror-free environment” for traders. The attacks were condemned in a meeting at Amber Hall in Kothrud on Saturday, which was attended by association leaders Pradeep Maid, Madhavrao Dahiwal, Venkatesh Udavant, Shyam Udavant, Manjunath Jadhav, Rajusheth Adane, Nitin Nalawade, Vishal Maid, Manohar Shahane, senior inspector Mohan Khandare, and other members from Karvenagar, Warje Malwadi, Uttamnagar, and Kothrud.
Association officials urged the police to enhance patrolling and security measures in bullion-dense areas to prevent similar attempts in the future.
