Dhayari, 28th April 2025: A newly asphalted road connecting Dhayari to DSK Vishwa was illegally excavated by a private contractor within just four days of its construction. The unauthorized work, intended to connect a sewage channel, was halted after vigilant citizens alerted the authorities.

The road, stretching from Chamunda Hotel to DSK Vishwa Arch via Dhayari village, was freshly resurfaced by the Pune Municipal Corporation’s (PMC) Road Department. However, on Monday morning, excavation work began abruptly using a JCB machine. A subsequent inquiry revealed that the work was allegedly initiated on the instructions of a personal assistant to a former BJP corporator.

No Permission Sought from the Municipal Corporation
Municipal officials, including Naresh Raikar, Deputy Engineer of the Road Department, and Engineers from the Sewerage Department, Nishikant Chapekar and Shubham Deshmukh, confirmed that no official permission had been granted for digging the newly constructed road. Upon learning about the incident, PMC official Kishor Pokale rushed to the spot and immediately ordered a halt to the excavation.

Legal Action Initiated
Aniruddha Pawaskar, Head of the Road Department, stated that unauthorized digging on newly constructed roads will not be tolerated. He announced that a criminal case would be registered against the contractor, the builder, and other individuals responsible. Additionally, a complaint will be lodged with the Construction Department to initiate further action.

Traffic Chaos Leaves Citizens Fuming
The unauthorized digging not only damaged public property but also caused significant traffic congestion in the Dhayari area. The already narrow road turned into a bottleneck, leading to severe inconvenience for schoolchildren, office commuters, and local residents. Citizens expressed anger over the careless disruption and demanded strict action against those responsible.
