Pune: Khadakwasla Dam Discharge Increased to 9,372 Cusecs as Heavy Rain Raises Water Level; Residents Along Mutha River Asked to Stay Alert
Pune, 24th July 2026: The Khadakwasla Irrigation Division has significantly increased the water discharge from Khadakwasla Dam into the Mutha River following a rapid rise in the reservoir level due to heavy rainfall in the catchment area.
According to the Executive Engineer of the Khadakwasla Irrigation Division, the discharge from the dam’s spillway will be increased by 4,708 cusecs, taking the total release to 9,372 cusecs from 5 pm on Friday.
Officials said the decision was taken in view of the continuous inflow into the reservoir caused by intense rainfall in the dam’s catchment area.
The irrigation department also cautioned that the discharge may be increased or reduced further depending on rainfall and reservoir inflows, and urged residents to remain alert.
The administration has appealed to citizens not to enter the Mutha riverbed under any circumstances. People have also been advised to immediately remove livestock, equipment and other materials from the riverbed and low-lying areas that could be affected by the increased water release.
Authorities have asked local officials to inform residents living along the river and in vulnerable areas so that necessary precautionary measures can be taken in time.
The Executive Engineer of the Khadakwasla Irrigation Division urged citizens to exercise caution and follow official advisories until further updates are issued.
