Pune: Kondhwa Hotel Owner Alleges Rs 50,000 Monthly Extortion Demand
Kondhwa, 10th September 2026: A 68-year-old hotel owner from Kondhwa has lodged a police complaint alleging that a group of people demanded ₹50,000 per month for the use of open space outside his hotel and threatened to damage the property if he failed to pay.
The complaint was filed by Rajesh Arvind Shah, who operates Gokul Pure Veg Hotel at Mandot Tower in Kondhwa Budruk. According to the complaint, the accused allegedly told Shah that he would have to pay ₹50,000 every month if he wanted to continue operating the hotel using the open space.
Shah further alleged that the group threatened to damage the hotel if the amount was not paid.
The complaint names Chandrakant Jain, Pravin alias Popat Oswal, Ganesh Karnawat, Atul Karnawat and Rishabh Mehta, along with three unidentified persons. They have been accused of allegedly forming an unlawful assembly, entering the hotel premises without permission and encroaching on the property.
According to the complaint, the accused allegedly damaged a wall, broke wall tiles and disconnected the hotel’s electricity and water connections.
The complaint was filed on September 8 in connection with an alleged incident reported up to September 7 at around 10 am. Police officials visited the spot following the complaint.
A case has been registered under Sections 189(1), 189(2), 190, 324(2), 329(1), 329(3), 308(2) and 351(2) of the relevant law. Assistant Police Inspector Nevse is investigating the case.
