Pune, 24th January 2025: The long-pending issue of acquiring additional land for constructing the ramp of the two-storey flyover at Acharya Anand Rishiji Chowk, (outside the gate of Savitribai Phule Pune University), has finally been resolved. The Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA) has announced that the land acquisition process, involving the Progressive Education Society’s (PES) Modern College, will be completed shortly, and the ramp is expected to be ready within three months.

A crucial meeting on the matter was held on Thursday in the presence of Pune Municipal Corporation’s (PMC) Road Department Head Aniruddha Pawaskar, Metropolitan Commissioner Dr. Yogesh Mhase, PES Society’s Working President Dr. Gajanan Ekbote, PMRDA Chief Engineer Rinaj Pathan, and other officials. During the meeting, Dr. Ekbote confirmed that PES agreed to cooperate in the land acquisition process and finalize compensation details.

Around 4,000 square feet of land from PES Modern College will be acquired to construct the ramp. The land includes areas occupied by the botanical garden, canteen, and classrooms. To preserve the botanical garden’s indigenous and exotic plant species, PMRDA will safely transplant the trees to another location within the college premises.
Additionally, the high-voltage power line running through the college will be relocated. PES has agreed to submit details of compensation requirements to PMRDA by Monday, January 27. An agreement (MoU) has been finalized to ensure smooth execution of the project.

“The Municipal Corporation will immediately begin work on the ramp by widening the road and installing iron barriers. The project will be completed within three months,” said PMRDA Chief Engineer Rinaj Pathan.

Once completed, the ramp will significantly ease traffic congestion near Savitribai Phule Pune University, a key traffic junction in the city.
