Pune Leads Maharashtra in MahaRERA-Registered Housing Projects as State Crosses 50,000 Mark

Pune, 8th May 2025: Pune has emerged as the top district in Maharashtra with the highest number of MahaRERA-registered housing projects, contributing significantly to the state’s real estate growth as the total number of projects registered under the Maharashtra Real Estate Regulatory Authority (MahaRERA) has surpassed the 50,000 mark.
As of now, Pune alone accounts for 12,788 registered housing projects, followed by Thane (6,746), Mumbai Suburbs (5,907), and Raigad (5,360). With this milestone, Maharashtra has become the only state in India to cross the 50,000 housing project registrations under RERA, reinforcing its position as a national leader in real estate regulation and development.
MahaRERA Chairman Manoj Saunik noted the significance of the achievement, stating, “The total number of housing projects registered with MahaRERA, which has recently completed its 8th year and entered its 9th, has surpassed 50,000. This is a moment of achievement for the industry-friendly and ever-progressing Maharashtra. Until a few years ago, the real estate sector was largely concentrated in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region or Pune, but now it is expanding across the entire state.”
Maharashtra now accounts for more than one-third (about 35%) of all RERA-registered housing projects in India, which currently total 1,44,617 across the country, according to the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs.
The Pune region as a whole, including Satara, Kolhapur, Sangli, and Solapur, has 15,932 projects, second only to the Konkan region (23,770 projects) that includes Mumbai and Thane.
Established in 2017, MahaRERA was among the first regulatory bodies set up under the Real Estate (Regulation and Development) Act, 2016. It aims to promote transparency, accountability, and timely completion of projects in the real estate sector.
Saunik also highlighted MahaRERA’s commitment to safeguarding homebuyer interests: “While legally empowering homebuyers, MahaRERA ensures that grievances are equal to negligible. We strive to ensure homebuyers do not face any issues.”
Other regions with notable project registrations include:
North Maharashtra: 4,621 projects (with Nashik leading at 3,854),
Nagpur region: 2,764,
Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar region: 1,886, and
Amravati region: 957.
Even Union Territories like Dadra and Nagar Haveli (180) and Daman (52) are part of MahaRERA’s growing reach.
