Pune: Lieutenant Colonel Anant Gokhale Passes Away

Pune, 24th September 2021: Lieutenant Colonel Anant Sadashiv Gokhale (76) passed away due to brief illness on September 15.

He was the first commissioned officer of the 13th Battalion Brigade of the Guards in March 1968. Until his retirement in 1997, he was involved in all the major operations of the Indian Army.

Lt Col Gokhale had successfully carried out the high-risk detention of Lieutenant General AAK Niazi, one of East Pakistan’s most important prisoners in the 1971 Bangladesh Liberation War.

He was also involved in Operation Pawan in Sri Lanka. After retiring from a successful career of 30 years as an infantry officer, he became the first commandant of the Rani Lakshmibai Girls’ Military School of the Maharashtra Education Society. He held the post of Registrar of Symbiosis Institute of Business Management and Member and Chairman of the Executive Committee of Huzurpaga School of Maharashtra Girls Education Society.

He is survived by his wife, son, two daughters, daughter-in-law, two sons-in-law, and grandchildren.
