Pune: Lohgaon Water Tank Project Gets Green Light as Forest Minister Ganesh Naik Orders Immediate Land Transfer
Lohgaon, 27th June 2025: The long-pending Lohgaon water tank project in Pune has received a crucial boost after Maharashtra Forest Minister Ganesh Naik ordered the immediate transfer of required forest land to the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC). The decision was made during a meeting at Van Bhavan, Pune, attended by Forest Minister Naik and Vadgaonsheri MLA Bapusaheb Pathare, where several stalled development projects in the Vadgaonsheri area were discussed.
A key issue addressed was the proposal to construct one MBR, one sump well, and two new water tanks on forest land at Survey No. 304, located on the hill near D.Y. Patil College in Lohgaon. Although PMC had completed all necessary procedures, including revised proposals and joint inspections, the transfer of 0.9759 hectares of land had been delayed, resulting in ongoing water scarcity for Lohgaon residents.
Responding positively to MLA Pathare’s detailed presentation, Minister Naik instructed officials to expedite the land handover. This move is expected to resolve the water problems for nearly 50% of Lohgaon’s population, according to Pathare.
The meeting also saw approval for other key proposals, including the development of a high-quality forest park on department land in Nirgudi and Vadgaon Shinde, relocation of the Lohgaon-Nirgudi road to bypass forest areas, and the use of 0.384 hectares of forest land at Survey No. 57 for road development from Kharadi to Shivane. These decisions are set to address multiple issues related to water supply, road connectivity, traffic, and environmental development in the Vadgaonsheri constituency.
Following the meeting, MLAs Bapusaheb Pathare and Mahesh Landge thanked Minister Naik for facilitating the land transfer necessary for the road connecting Dhanori to Charholi.
