Pune, 22nd May 2026: After years of delays and persistent complaints of water scarcity, parts of Dhayari along Sinhagad Road are likely to receive relief as the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) nears completion of pipeline work linked to a long-pending overhead water tank in the area.

Civic officials said the final phase of connecting the tank to the Wadgaon water works is underway and water supply through the system is expected to begin soon.

Residents said the overhead tank, constructed around 2017, had remained non-functional for several years due to incomplete pipeline infrastructure. The delay forced many housing societies and residents in Dhayari to continue relying heavily on private water tankers.

Residents said the project was among the earliest proposed under PMC’s equitable water supply scheme but failed to become operational for nearly eight years.

According to civic officials, the tank is expected to improve water distribution in parts of Dhayari Phata and surrounding localities once operational.

Dhayari, parts of which were merged into PMC limits in phases over the years, has witnessed rapid residential growth but continued to face inadequate water infrastructure. Residents have repeatedly raised concerns over irregular supply and dependence on tanker water, especially during summer months.

Officials from PMC’s water supply department said work related to the final pipeline connections was progressing and the administration expected the system to become functional shortly.
