Pune: Lotus Business School Gears Up for IPL-Style Cricket Extravaganza

Pune, 25th January 2025: Lotus Business School is set to host its annual cricket tournament on 27th, 28th, and 29th January at the Jambhe Ground, Punawale. The event promises to be a thrilling showcase of talent, strategy, and sportsmanship, inspired by the Indian Premier League (IPL).

The three-day cricket festival will feature eight teams competing in a format similar to the IPL. The group stage will consist of 8-over matches, while the knockout rounds will extend to 10 overs. Teams are divided into two groups of four, with each team playing two matches. The top two teams from each group will advance to the semi-finals on 29th Alumni of LBS will also play two matches on last day and cherish reunion of their college friend.

The tournament embraces a women empowerment theme, requiring each team to include at least one female player and mandating one over of female bowling per match. Two out of the eight team managers are women, further emphasizing the focus on gender equality in sports. Additionally, each team includes two faculty members, bridging the gap between students and staff.

Taking inspiration from the IPL, the tournament features a pre-event auction and performance assessments. Each team was given 1500 points, with a cap of 200 points for the most expensive players. IPL franchises influence team names and slogans, adding to the professional atmosphere. The custom-designed jerseys showcase local businesses as sponsors and display players’ mothers’ names as a Life Mentor alongside their own, adding a personal touch to the event.

All matches will be played on a full pitch using tennis balls. The group stage matches will be 8 overs long, while the knockout rounds will extend to 10 overs. The semi-finals and finals are scheduled for 29th January, with a special alumni match featuring ex-students adding to the excitement.

The tournament will culminate in the presentation of an impressive trophy to the winning team, adding to the prestige of the event. This cricket tournament not only showcases the sporting talent at Lotus Business School but also promotes women’s empowerment in sports. With its IPL-inspired format and unique features, the event is set to be a memorable experience for players and spectators alike.

This unique initiative was carried out under the guidance of LBS Executive Director, Charrudatta Bodhankar, Director Dr. Satish Warpade, and event coordinator Dr. Anil Poman and Dr.Pranita Arbat, Every faculty member is actively participating, as are the students.
