Pune: Maharashtra and Goa State ‘SET’ Exam to Transition Online, Conducted Biannually
Pune, 22nd November 2023: In a significant development, the State Eligibility Test (SET) in Maharashtra and Goa, akin to the National Eligibility Test (NET) exam, is set to undergo substantial changes. The decision, based on recommendations from the University Grants Commission (UGC) sponsored steering committee, outlines plans for biannual SET exams and a shift from offline to online mode, beginning after the last offline SET organized by Savitribai Phule Pune University (SPPU).
While the upcoming SET exam by SPPU remains offline, subsequent exams are slated to be conducted online. The move is in response to decisions made by the UGC steering committee, emphasizing the need for a transition to online examinations for efficiency and accessibility.
The last offline SET organized by the university will have its schedule announced next week. Students will have approximately a month to fill out the exam application forms. Following this, a period of two to three months will be allocated for the processing of examination applications, preparation of admit cards and related tasks. The final offline SET is expected to take place in March or April of the coming year.
In light of concerns surrounding various online recruitment exams, the university is taking cautious steps toward implementing the online SET. The decision to shift to an online format will be contingent on factors such as physical inspections of examination centres, internet bandwidth, and other facilities. The goal is to ensure a seamless experience for students, particularly those in rural and remote areas, and to mitigate any potential confusion during the exam.
Once the online SET is implemented successfully, the plan is to conduct the exam twice a year. This approach aims to provide quicker results and increased opportunities for students to participate in the SET, aligning with the broader goal of enhancing the efficiency and accessibility of the examination process.
Dr Parag Kalkar, Pro-Chancellor of SPPU, stated, “Online set exams will be considered only after the actual test. We plan to hold the exam twice a year for quick results and opportunity for students.”
