Pune, 22nd November 2023: The Department of Cooperatives has decided to establish a set of rules and procedures (SOPs) to address the multitude of issues and grievances faced by around seven lakh housing societies and their residents in Maharashtra. A dedicated committee has been appointed to determine the procedures for resolving complaints, aiming to streamline the grievance redressal process. The implementation of these rules is scheduled for the upcoming new year.

Taking a proactive approach, the Department of Cooperatives aims to assist members of cooperative housing societies in the state, including Pune, in resolving their domestic issues. An online portal named ‘Sahakar Samvad’ has been launched for this purpose. This portal allows residents across the state to register and follow up on complaints related to cooperative housing societies.

The Committee for SOP comprises members who will focus on the following key aspects:
– Addressing the diverse grievances of housing societies and their residents.
– Ensuring impartiality and justice in the resolution of complaints.
– Coordinating the resolution of complaints among officers in cooperative departments across the state.
– Establishing a standardized rule framework for grievance redressal.

To carry out these objectives, a four-member committee has been formed, consisting of three Deputy Directors from the Cooperative Department and one representative from Housing Societies. The committee will delve into approximately 23 types of complaints to formulate effective SOPs. This initiative is expected to provide a structured and fair mechanism for addressing the concerns of residents in cooperative housing societies across Maharashtra.
