Pune: Major Accident Averted in Viman Nagar as Students Dodge Drunk Driver on Footpath

Viman Nagar, 12th December 2024: Last night in Pune, a drink-and-drive incident occurred in which a major disaster was averted. The incident took place late at night in Viman Nagar, Pune. A drunk man was driving his car at high speed and mounted the footpath. However, three students seated there moved just seconds before the car approached, and their quick thinking prevented a major accident.

A case has been registered at the Airport Police Station in Pune. A 34-year-old man has been charged with drunk driving. Eyewitnesses shared details of the incident with Punekar News.

One of the eyewitnesses stated that the incident occurred near Shree Krishna Veg Court Restaurant Chowk, where a 34-year-old man, driving a red Skoda Slavia under the influence of alcohol, was speeding and ignoring traffic rules. He lost control of the car and veered toward the footpath. The three students, who were standing and relaxing, noticed the car coming toward them. They quickly reacted and moved aside, avoiding the car, which mounted the footpath and collided with something before coming to a stop. The driver was found to be drunk. People called the Airport Police Station, and a case was registered. The man’s blood sample has been sent for a medical report.

Senior Police Inspector Ajay Sakeshwari, in charge of the Airport Police Station, told Punekar News, “The driver was sent for a medical test, and its report is pending. Prima facie, he appeared drunk. A case of drunk driving has been registered, and the investigation is ongoing.”
