Wagholi,12th March 2026: A massive fire destroyed a furniture manufacturing unit in the Jagtap Vasti area of Wagholi on Thursday afternoon, with authorities estimating losses running into several crores of rupees. Firefighters from the Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA) and the Pune Municipal Corporation battled the blaze for nearly six to seven hours before it was finally brought under control.

The fire broke out at Radiance Kitchen and Furniture around 1:30 pm, when residents in the area noticed thick smoke rising from the premises. Initially, some locals assumed garbage was burning nearby, but soon realised the smoke was coming from inside the factory and alerted the fire brigade.

When firefighters reached the spot, they found the factory closed as Thursday was its weekly holiday. Rescue teams had to break open the shutters to gain entry into the premises.

By that time, the fire had already spread across large sections of the building, making it difficult for firefighters to enter. Authorities deployed seven to eight fire tenders to contain the flames.

Firefighters attempted to douse the blaze from three different sides by accessing the building through shutters and windows. In order to improve access, portions of the factory’s wall and window grills were also broken during the operation. After nearly five to six hours of continuous firefighting efforts, the blaze was eventually brought under control.

Officials confirmed that no injuries were reported in the incident as the factory was closed at the time the fire broke out. The exact cause of the blaze has not yet been determined and will be ascertained after a detailed investigation.

The factory had been operating in the area for nearly eight years and employed around 200 workers. It was known for manufacturing imported furniture products.

Local residents said the entire facility was gutted in the fire. Witnesses added that the factory owners, who arrived at the site while the firefighting operation was underway, appeared distraught as they watched the premises being consumed by flames.

Authorities are now assessing the full extent of the damage caused by the incident.
