Pune: Man arrested for illegally selling steroid drugs to bodybuilders

Pune, October 25, 2020: The sleuths of Crime Branch-Unit 2 of Pune City Police have arrested a 29-year-old man for allegedly possessing and selling illegal mephentermine sulfate, a schedule H drug, to bodybuilders as steroids.
The accused has been identified as Rohan Prahlad Londhe, a resident of Sasane Nagar, Hadapsar.
According to police, this drug is used by patients suffering from low blood pressure and cardiac problems and cannot be sold without a prescription.
While patrolling under the jurisdiction of Swaragate Police Station, Police Constable Namdev Renuse was informed that a man would be coming to Swargate to sell illegal stimulant drugs.
“Based on the tip received, the Crime Branch unit laid a trap and nabbed Londhe at Shankarsheth Road in Swargate. As many as 16 bottles, each carrying 10 ml of mephentermine sulfate, were recovered from his possession”, said Deputy Commissioner of Police (crime) Bachchan Singh.
He further said, “Since gyms are re-opening now, Gym instructors are requested to create awareness on healthy nutritional habits and dissuade people from misusing such drugs for bodybuilding as it might have long term health effects.”
The accused was taken into custody, and further action was taken with the help of Food and Drug Administration (FDA). An FIR has been registered with Swargate police station against Londhe for offences under sections 276 and 336 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).
