Pune: Man Dies By Suicide After Killing Wife And Child Due To Unemployment

Loni Kalbhor, 10th May 2021: A 38-year-old unemployed man allegedly killed his wife and child and then died by suicide in Loni Kalbhor. Police said that he was in financial distress as he was not able to find any job due to lockdown.

The deceased have been identified as Hanumant Daryappa Shinde, his wife Pragya (28) and their son Shivtej (1 year 2 months).

According to police, the Shinde family hails from Baxi Hipparge village in South Solapur taluka of Solapur district. They were living in a rented accommodation in Kadamwakvasti locality of Loni Kalbhor for the last few months for work. However, due to the lockdown, Shinde was unemployed for the last many days.

“Due to unemployment, he was depressed. He was also facing financial issues. After killing his wife by strangulation and slitting the throat of his child with a sharp weapon, Hanumant hanged himself around 11.30 am on Sunday”, said Senior Police Inspector Rajendra Mokashi, in-charge of Loni Kalbhor police station, Pune city police.

Based on a complaint from Hanumant’s father Daryappa Arjun Shinde, an FIR has been registered against Hanumant Shinde for offence under section 302 (murder) and 309 (attempt to commit suicide) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).
