Pune 7th July 2023: The Pune rural police have apprehended the main suspect, identified as Rajendra Gatkal (50) from Rajuri in Junnar taluka of Pune district, in connection with a case involving impersonation of a forest officer. Following a complaint filed by the state forest department, an FIR was registered at the Alephata police station on July 4, prompting an investigation into the matter.

According to officials, the authorities had received multiple complaints alleging that an individual, posing as a forest officer, along with his associates, had been stopping vehicles along the Alephata to Gaimukhwadi road during the night. These fraudulent officials were reported to have threatened motorists and extorted approximately Rs 30,000 from them.

During an internal investigation it was revealed that the individual responsible for the extortion was not an actual forest officer. Efforts are currently underway to locate and apprehend his accomplices.

During the legal proceedings, Gatkal was remanded in police custody for a period of two days by the court. Meanwhile, another case involving the accused was registered at the Otur police station, adding to the charges of extortion against him.
