Pune, April 13, 2019 : The brother was arrested by the Pimpri-Chinchwad police eight months later on Friday. The incident happened in the month of September last year.

Hinjewadi police have arrested John Daniel Borde (40) of Soundarya colony in Nakhate Basti, Rahatani. He had killed Sangeeta Manish Hivale (44). Initially he had claimed that he was taking her to hospital after she had suffered heart attack but his car had suddenly caught fire near Sayaji Hotel, Wakad. He alongwith his mother and Sangeeta’s son Simon (15) had jumped out of the car but Sangeeta could not escape and she was charred to death inside the car. The incident took place on the night of 9th September 2018.

Police officials said that there was a dispute between Sangeeta and John over sharing their father’s property. After argument, John had banged her head on the floor. He knew that Sangeeta has accidental insurance policy and if she died in accident her mother would get Rs 30 lakhs. Accordingly, John, who is a mechanic, created the drama of Sangeeta’s death in the accident.

The incident came to light when recently police received an anonymous letter alleging that Sangeeta was murdered. When questioned with the new details, John confessed to have murdered Sangeeta to claim her insurance money.

According to police, after banging Sangeeta’s head on the floor John had left home. His wife called him to inform that Sangeeta was unconscious. John bought a petrol in bottle and hid the bottle in his Maruti car which ran on CNG. He came home told everyone that Sangeeta might suffered heart attack. She had several medical issues including low blood pressure. Under pretext of taking her to hospital, he alongwith their Maya Borde (65) and Sangeeta’s son Simon left home and later he faked the car burning.

Police officials investigating the case said that John stopped the car at a secluded place on the service road near Sayaji Hotel. He told his mother and Simon to get out of the car saying the car has developed some problem. He opened the bonnet and asked Simon to stand infront. His mother was standing at some distance. John came inside the car and poured petrol on Sangeeta and set her on fire with a lighter. Later around 1 am, the fire brigade was called which doused the fire.
