Pune: Man Sentenced 30 Years Imprisonment For Raping His Daughter

Pune, February 22, 2021: A 37-year old man was sentenced to 30 years of rigorous imprisonment for sexually assaulting his daughter for over four months in 2019. The court hailed the medical report after the mother of the minor girl turned hostile during the trial. The accused also had to pay Rs 15,000 as a fine.

The judgement by Special Judge KK Jahagirdar states, “The very act of father raping his daughter is despicable. If the accused is given less punishment, it will send a wrong message to society.”

Public prosecutor Arundhati Brahme examined eight witnesses to prove the guilt of the accused. Medical examination, testimony by investigation officer sub-inspector Swaraj Patil were important points of the case.

A native of Uttar Pradesh, the family was residing  under jurisdiction of Kondhwa police station. The father raped the girl from June to October in 2019 after which she was pregnant. The girl had gone to stay with her maternal uncle for some days after the incidents. Initially, her mother helped her to lodge the complaint, but during the hearing turned hostile.

The medical report, however, proved that the girl was raped by her father and it became crucial evidence while announcing the judgement.
