Pune Man Wanted Midnight Home Delivery of Whisky, Lost Rs 26,652

[email protected], November 18, 2019: A man has lodged FIR with Pune city police stating he was cheated of Rs 26,652 under the pretext of delivering Whisky at his home.As per the case registered with Wanowrie police station, the incident took place on November 2. The man who is a resident of Mohammadwadi wanted to place an order for Whisky around midnight. The incident took place between November 1 midnight and 1.45 am on November 2.According to police, it was the intervening night of November 1 and 2. The complainant Google searched for wine shops and got a phone number of a wine shop near Magarpatta City. He called on the number but the receiver informed him that the shop is closed, he should place the order online for home delivery of whisky.“The shopkeeper asked me to share debit card number and one-time password (OTP) for making the payments of Rs 1850. I shared the card number and the OTP and Rs 1850 was deducted. However, after some time I was informed that the delivery boy is not available, hence they will refund my amount. Again he asked for OTP and Rs 9901 was deducted. He told me because I had shared the wrong OTP, hence the amount was deducted from my account. I again shared another OTP and Rs 9901 was again deducted. Like that a total of Rs 26,652 were transferred from my bank account”, the complainant told the police.Based on the complaint, police have registered the case for offences under sections 420 (cheating), 419 (impersonation) of the Indian Penal Code and relevant sections of the Information Technology Act. Senior police inspector Krantikumar Patil is further investigating the case.
