Pune, 28th February 2023: Pune Zilha Parishad (ZP) flying squad detected a case of mass copying yesterday during the class 12th (HSC) board exam at a school in Kedgaon near Daund.

Pune ZP CEO Ayush Prasad, “We have filed an FIR against persons who are suspected to have aided and abetted mass cheating in Class XII Board Examination. We have seized and handed over the cheating material to the Police. FIR has been filed under the said law for the first time since its enactment in 2016.”

As per the case registered at Yavat police station (Pune rural police), the incident took place during the exam of the Maharashtra state board at Jawaharlal Nehru school in Kedgaon. The exam was scheduled from 11 am to 2 pm on Monday. When the flying squad team reached there, the centre in-charge was found absent and his deputy (who is a physics teacher) was officiating in his place.

Kisan Bhujbal, an officer from the ZP’s education department, lodged a complaint with the police stating that upon our arrival, the students began throwing photocopies, books, and other cheating materials. We confiscated all the materials and handed them over to the authorities. As the invigilators failed to provide a satisfactory explanation regarding how the students were able to bring the cheating materials into the exam hall, we registered a case against nine teachers who were on duty at the time.

The case has been registered against Jalinder Narayan Kate, Raosaheb Shamrao Bhamre, Kuchekar Prakash, Divekar Vikas, Gorgal Sham, Kavita Kashid, Jayshree Gawli, Surekha Hon and Abhay Sonnawar.

ZP CEO Prasad added, “Pune Zilha Parishad has coordinated with the Police Department and Municipal Corporations to strictly enforce the ‘Copy Mukt Abhiyan’ of the state government. We have also been providing study material, exam paper analysis, and testing material to schools. We have held several rounds of meetings with schools to help improve academic performance.”
