Pune, 25th June 2023: In the first of three women’s exhibition matches, the MCA Blue team defeated the MCA Yellow team by 22 runs (DLS) method, when rain played a spoilsport for the majority of it.

The game was initially reduced to 15 overs and the Yellow team chose to bowl first. India international Smriti Mandhana (1 off 3) failed to score big, to the disappointment of the little crowd present at the stadium despite persistent showers.

But Shivali Shinde 35* (28b, 5x4s) and Hrutuja Deshmukh 23 (21b, 2x4s) put on 56 for the second wicket. When the Blue team was batting on 57 for 1 in 7.3 overs, rain intervened again. After the delay, the game was reduced to 9 overs, in which the Blue team put up 66 for 3. As per the Duckworth Lewis calculation, the target was revised to 77 in 9 overs.

In response, the Yellow team got off to a poor start with their skipper Tejal Hasabnis castled on 10 by Priyanka Garkhede. The yellow team failed to recover from that setback and could only manage 54 for 4 in their 9 overs.

The second exhibition game will take place on Tuesday, June 27 between MCA Yellow and MCA Red.
