Pune: MCOCA Against Gang Spreading Terror In Market Yard Area, Looting Rs 28 Lakh Cash

Pune, 17th January 2023: Action under the stringent Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act (MCOCA) has been taken against 12 persons, including gang leader Avinash Gupta, who created terror and looted the citizens of the Market Yard area. An incident of robbery of Rs 28 lakh in cash by the concerned gang at pistol point took place recently.

 

Police Commissioner Retesh Kumaarr has ordered strict action against organised gangs. Within a month of assuming office, he has taken decisive action of MCOCA against five gangs.

 

Those booked under MCOCA are Avinash Rampratap Gupta (20) of Shivane, Aditya Ashok Marne (28) of Warje Malwadi, Ajay Bapu Divate (23) of Ramnagar in Warje, Nilesh Balu Gothe (20), Vishal Satish Kasbe, both from Mangalwar Peth, Deepak Omprakash Sharma (19) of Rahulnagar in Shivne, Gurujan Singh Seva Singh Virag (22) of Patil Estate slum in Shivajinagar, Santosh Balu Pawar (23), and Sai Rajendra Kumbhar (19), both residents of Khanapur.

 

According to police, gang leader Avinash Gupta, with the help of his accomplices, robbed Rs 28 lakh cash and mobiles from an Angadiya (private courier service) office on 12th November last year. The gang is also reported to have committed serious crimes, including attempted murder, grievous bodily harm, illegal possession of dangerous weapons, arson, and robbery.

 

Senior Police Inspector Angha Deshpande, in-charge of Market Yard police station, presented the proposal of action against the gang under MCOCA to Additional Commissioner of Police (East region) Ranjan Kumar Sharma on behalf of Deputy Commissioner of Police (Zone 5) Vikrant Deshmukh. Accordingly, the sanction was granted for MCOCA which will keep the gang members behind bars for atleast six months before police file a chargesheet against them. ACP Pournima Taware is further investigating the case.

 

The investigation team includes Senior Police Inspector Angha Deshpande, Police Inspector (Crime) Savita Dhamdhere, API Ramdas Mundhe, Sub Inspectors Chetan Bhosale and Virendra Dhawan, and Amarnath Lonkar.
