Pune: MCOCA Invoked Against Gang Which Terrorised Manjari Residents With Koyta

Hadapsar, 12th January 2023: Taking stringent action against gangs terrorising people with choppers (koyta), Pune city police has booked 14 members of a gang under the Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act (MCOCA). They will not get bail for atleast six months, officials said.

The action has been taken as per the directions of the Commissioner of Police Retesh Kumaarr and Joint CP Sandeep Karnik.

On 9th December 2023, a gang of 8 to 10 people beat up two people and abused the residents near Maharaja Wines in Gopalpatti area of Manjari Budruk. While running away on bikes, they terrorized the citizens by waving choppers in the air saying, “We are dons (Bhai) here.” In this case, the gang leader Samir Liaquat Pathan (26) and his accomplices Shoib Liaquat Pathan and Ganesh alias Dada Vitthal Havaldar are criminals on police records.

Senior Police Inspector Arvind Gokule, in-charge of Hadapsar police station, submitted a proposal for action under MCOCA, through DCP (Zone 5) Vikrant Deshmukh to Additional Commissioner of Police (East Region) Ranjan Sharma. Accordingly, the action was taken against the gang. Now ACP Bajrang Desai is investigating the case.

The investigation team included Police Inspectors Digambar Shinde, Vishwas Dagle, API Vijaykumar Shinde, Police Sub-Inspector Avinash Shinde and police personnel Sameer Pandule, Shahid Sheikh, Humbarde, Dudhaal, Sonwane, Pravin Shinde, Girish Erkoge.
