Pune, 6th January 2024: The Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA) is actively exploring the feasibility of implementing extended metro projects between Pune – Shivajinagar to Loni Kalbhor and Khadakwasla to Kharadi. A financial and technical consultant has been appointed to assess whether a private partnership or contractor appointment is the most suitable approach for the implementation. A decision on the project’s execution model will be made based on the consultant’s report.

Details of the Metro Projects:
1. Pune – Shivajinagar to Loni Kalbhor Extension: The PMRDA has taken up the extension of the Hinjawadi to Shivajinagar metro project, considering an extension to Loni Kalbhor. The proposed extended route includes key locations such as Shivajinagar, Pulgate, Hadapsar, and Loni Kalbhor, with a potential branch on Saswad Road.

2. Khadakwasla to Kharadi Metro Line: Mahametro, responsible for the metro line between Pimpri-Chinchwad and Swargate, has proposed a 28 km route extension from Khadakwasla to Kharadi. This extension aims to enhance the metro connectivity in the region.

In a recent meeting of the Pune Transport Authority, the Divisional Commissioner issued instructions for PMRDA to appoint a financial and technical consultant to determine the most appropriate construction approach for the two proposed metro lines. Through a tender process, a consultant has been appointed, and their task is to submit a comprehensive report within three months.

The appointment of the consultant received approval in a meeting held in Mumbai in the presence of Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar. The consulting company has been mandated to provide insights into the financial and technical aspects of the projects, aiding in the decision-making process for the Pune metro expansion.
