Pune, 3rd February 2025: A new initiative aimed at supporting breastfeeding mothers traveling with young children was inaugurated at Pune Metro’s District Court Metro Station. The ‘Matrushakti Nursing Pod’, a dedicated breastfeeding and baby care facility, was launched by Minister of State for Public Health and Family Welfare and Women and Child Development, Meghna Deepak Sakore – Bordikar.

The facility has been introduced as part of the Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative by Evolent Health International Pvt. Ltd, in collaboration with Social Thumb Foundation. It aims to provide a comfortable and private space for women to breastfeed or change their babies during their metro commute.

The Matrushakti Nursing Pod addresses a critical need, as many women face challenges while traveling on public transport without access to appropriate facilities for feeding or changing their babies. With the increasing number of women using Pune Metro daily, this initiative offers a solution to ease their journey.

Present at the inauguration were Pune Metro Director (Operations) Atul Gadgil, General Manager Capt. Dr. Rajendra Saner-Patil, Social Thumb Foundation Founder Anushree Jawanjal, and other officials from Evolent Health International Pvt. Ltd, along with Metro officers and employees.

In her speech, Anushree Jawanjal expressed her excitement about the facility: “This is a start to make public transport services like Metro more inclusive for mothers traveling with small children. I am very happy that the lives of many women will be made easier with the availability of Matrushakti at Pune Metro stations.”
