Pune Metro Line 3 Trial Runs to Extend Up to Baner; Full Operations Expected by May 2026
Baner, 20th October 2025: Trial runs for Pune Metro Line 3 (Hinjawadi–Shivajinagar) are set to be extended up to Baner, marking another key milestone in the city’s metro expansion. Currently, trial operations are underway between Maan Depot and Balewadi station. Once the line becomes operational in May 2026, Pune Metro is expected to witness a significant surge in ridership.
The project achieved a historic milestone on August 27, coinciding with Ganesh Chaturthi, when the metro ventured out of Hinjawadi for the first time. The maiden trial run from Maan Depot to Station No. 10 at Balewadi Stadium demonstrated the project’s steady progress and brought the city closer to enhanced urban connectivity.
Pune Metro Line 3 is a roughly 23-kilometre elevated corridor connecting the IT hub of Hinjawadi with the central business district at Shivajinagar. The line is being developed under a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model, awarded by the Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA) to a consortium comprising Tata Group’s TRIL Urban Transport Private Limited (TUTPL) and Siemens Project Ventures GmbH.
The project is being implemented on a Design, Build, Finance, Operate & Transfer (DBFOT) basis through a special purpose vehicle, Pune IT City Metro Rail Limited (PITCMRL). The concession period for the project spans 35 years, including the construction phase.
Once fully operational, Line 3 is expected to provide a fast, reliable, and efficient mode of transport for Pune’s IT professionals and daily commuters, easing traffic congestion along one of the city’s busiest corridors.
