Pune Metro: Madhuri Misal Proposes New Metro Station in Sahakarnagar-Bibvewadi on Swargate-Katraj Route
Pune, 21st January 2025: Minister of State for Urban Development and Transport, Madhuri Misal, has proposed the addition of a Metro station in Sahakarnagar-Bibvewadi along the Swargate-Katraj underground route to enhance connectivity for local residents.
On Monday, Misal held a review meeting with Metro officials to assess the progress of ongoing works on the Swargate-Katraj Metro corridor. During the meeting, she requested a feasibility study to explore the possibility of constructing a station in Sahakarnagar, which would serve the people living in the Sahakarnagar-Bibvewadi region.
“This proposal for an additional station aims to benefit the residents of Sahakarnagar and Bibvewadi,” Misal stated. “We want to ensure that the Metro project serves as many people as possible, so we’ve tabled the proposal for two more stations along this route.”
This new proposal comes after a similar suggestion for an additional station at Balajinagar, made a few months ago. The original Detailed Project Report (DPR) for the Swargate-Katraj route included three stations — at Market Yard, Padmavati, and Katraj. Misal emphasized, “The addition of two more stations will further improve accessibility for the people.”
Maha Metro will now assess the technical feasibility of this new proposal.
The Swargate-Katraj Metro route has already received approvals from both the state and central governments. Maha Metro is expected to finalize the appointment of an agency to begin tunnel construction soon, with groundwork expected to start in the next two months.
“As the transport minister, I have initiated ‘transport mapping’ surveys to strengthen public transport in Pune, speed up Metro project completion, and improve coordination between Metro, PMPML, and autorickshaw services,” Misal explained. She also mentioned that the state government is awaiting the Centre’s approval for two other key Metro projects — the Vanaz-Chandni Chowk and Ramwadi-Wagholi corridors.
Additionally, Misal highlighted that the Swargate Metro station will be directly connected to the MSRTC bus terminus, providing a seamless transition for commuters between the bus and Metro services.
