Pune Metro Route Extension To Ramwadi Set To Maintain Current Frequency, Feeder Buses Trials On
Pune, 15th February 2024: Pune Metro trains are poised to operate with a frequency of every seven-and-a-half minutes during peak hours and every 10 minutes during non-peak periods, extending all the way to Ramwadi. The Maharashtra Metro Rail Corporation Limited (Maha Metro) has opted to maintain the current train frequency even on the newly extended route.
The Ruby Hall to Ramwadi section of the Metro awaits final certification from the commissioner of Metro rail safety (CMRS). After completing inspections last month, the CMRS had outlined certain compliance parameters for Maha Metro to address.
Maha Metro officials stated that the decision to continue with the existing train frequency on the Ruby Hall to Ramwadi stretch was based on a thorough study. However, the number of trips may see an increase during peak hours, subject to feedback received after the commencement of operations. The Metro possesses additional rakes to meet potential demands.
The launch of this stretch is anticipated to be officiated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Sources from the city’s political circles have indicated a potential visit by the PM on Monday, but the details of the tour have not been finalized.
A compliance report has been submitted to the CMRS, and approval is expected shortly, according to a Maha Metro official. The official added, “We have provided the necessary details to the CMRS and will furnish more information if required. Maha Metro will inform the state government upon receiving certification. The decision to open the route will be at the state’s discretion.”
Meanwhile, regular commuters in the Nagar Road area have urged Maha Metro and the state government not to delay the commencement of services on the extended stretch.
In parallel developments, Maha Metro officials have reported ongoing collaboration with PMPML for feeder services from Ramwadi and Yerwada Metro stations to the airport. Trial runs for these feeder services are underway, with the timetable to be finalized based on flight operations.
An official familiar with the matter stated, “We have already conducted trials for feeder services. The timetable will be finalized based on flight operations. Our teams are working with PMPML.”
