Pune, 11th February 2025: Pune Metro is set to launch an e-bike rental service at select stations along the Pimpri-Swargate and Vanaz-Ramwadi routes, offering commuters a convenient last-mile connectivity option. The service, expected to be operational within the next two months, will initially be available at 10 major stations, including PCMC Building, Sant Tukaram Nagar, Nashik Phata, Dapodi, Shivajinagar, and Swargate.

Maharashtra Metro Rail Corporation Limited (Maha Metro), the operating body of Pune Metro, has partnered with TS Switch – eRides to deploy 50 e-bikes under the brand name ‘Switch E-Ride’ at each of the selected stations. Commuters can access these bikes via a mobile app or by scanning QR codes at the stations.

Designed for short-distance travel, the e-bikes have a maximum speed of 25 km/h and can accommodate two riders, with a weight limit of 150 kg. They offer a range of up to 80 km on a single charge and feature a swappable battery system, allowing replacements in under five minutes.

Hemant Sonawane, Director of Maha Metro, stated that users will need to complete KYC verification and accept the company’s terms before using the service. The e-bikes will come equipped with live tracking, geo-fencing, and an SOS button to enhance safety.

The proposed rental rates start at ₹1.50 per minute, with various time-based packages available, ranging from ₹55 for one hour to ₹450 for 24 hours. The introduction of this service aims to improve metro connectivity and provide a sustainable, eco-friendly solution for last-mile travel.
