Pune: MLA Shirole Advocates Construction Timings Regulations for City’s Growth, Raises Issue In Maharashtra Assembly

Pune, 14th December 2023: In a notable development during the ongoing winter session of the Vidhan Sabha, Shivajinagar MLA Siddharth Shirole has drawn attention to the need for stringent construction regulations, particularly concerning the timings of construction activities, within Pune City.

The burgeoning expansion of Pune has led to a construction boom, with various projects shaping the city’s skyline. However, the rapid pace of construction, particularly during nighttime, has emerged as a significant concern for local residents, senior citizens, and children.

MLA Shirole, addressing the assembly, highlighted the absence of specific regulations from the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) governing permissible hours for construction work. Despite directives from the Supreme Court, the city lacks defined guidelines on the precautions and care necessary to minimize disturbance to citizens during these activities.

“It has come to my attention that Pune Municipal Corporation has yet to establish explicit regulations regarding the permissible hours for construction work, despite clear directives from the Supreme Court. Additionally, there is a notable absence of guidelines outlining the precautions and considerations required to ensure minimal disturbance to the surrounding citizens during these construction activities,” noted Shirole.

In response to these concerns, the MLA has urged the assembly to direct the Pune Municipal Corporation to promptly formulate and enforce comprehensive construction regulations. The proposed regulations aim to address the growing unease among citizens and establish a framework for responsible construction practices within the city.

As the city continues its rapid expansion, the implementation of construction timings regulations is seen as a crucial step to balance growth with the well-being of Pune’s residents.
