Moshi, 11th July 2026: The ongoing rescue operation at the Moshi Waste-to-Energy (WTE) plant located within the premises of waste depot has disrupted garbage collection across Pimpri Chinchwad, with the Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) temporarily storing waste at ward-level sites after access to the city’s only waste processing facility was blocked.

The approach road to the Moshi landfill has remained closed since Wednesday after a massive garbage slide buried the administrative building, where rescue teams are searching for eight people still believed to be trapped.

The disruption has delayed door-to-door garbage collection in several parts of the city since Thursday. In some areas, collection vehicles arrived hours behind schedule, while others could not unload waste and remained stationed at ward offices.

Deputy Municipal Commissioner (Health) Pradeep Thengal said the civic body has identified temporary waste storage sites in five ward office jurisdictions, with locations in A, B and G wards still being finalised.

“There is no access road to the Moshi depot and no clarity on when the rescue operation will end. Waste will be stored temporarily at designated sites and shifted to Moshi once the road is reopened,” he said.

Meanwhile, a notice claiming that the PCMC would suspend door-to-door garbage collection on July 11 and 12 has been widely circulated on social media and housing society WhatsApp groups. The message cites operational issues at the Moshi depot and asks residents to avoid disposing of wet waste for two days.
