Pune: Moshi WTE Operator Raises Compensation for Victims’ Families to Rs 40 Lakh
Pimpri Chinchwad, 10th August 2026: Antony Lara Renewable Energy Pvt Ltd, which operates the Waste-to-Energy (WTE) plant at the Moshi garbage depot, has increased the compensation offered to the families of the nine people who died in the garbage heap collapse on July 8 from Rs 25 lakh to Rs 40 lakh each.
Sunil Neve, HR head of the company, said the decision was taken after meetings with victims’ families, PCMC and other stakeholders.
The nine workers were killed after a massive garbage heap collapsed onto the administrative building of the WTE plant at the Moshi garbage depot on July 8.
The company has also decided to provide medical insurance coverage to the immediate family members of each deceased worker, including their spouses, children and parents.
It has also initiated the process of providing employment to one member of each victim’s family. The company has further assured that the educational expenses of the victims’ children will be taken care of, Neve said.
Meanwhile, the Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) has already disbursed Rs 10 lakh each to the families of seven of the nine victims. The civic body has said the remaining families will also be provided the assistance.
The state government has also announced an additional compensation of Rs 5 lakh for each of the nine victims’ families.
The July 8 incident had triggered a major rescue operation involving the PCMC fire brigade, NDRF, PMRDA and other agencies. The collapse occurred when a large quantity of accumulated garbage slid onto the WTE plant’s administrative building, trapping workers inside.
